April 2024: Let There Be Light

Darkness crept over the stadium, stilling the crowd, filling the room with an abyss of sensation. Each seat, gripped with anticipation as the rumbles of the bass grew. A chaos, thundering to a crescendo. Like an ocean storm at night, waves of sound raging, pulsing with energy,

We thought we’d seen moments like this before. But this was different. There was a presence in the void that no camera could capture, no microphone could pick up.

It was a genesis.

And in its midst, a melody began, echoed by the voices of the masses:

let there be light.

And it was so.

Sound system, lighting, and LED screen hire for House of the Year 2023

Run at the Mystery Creek Event Centre, this year was the second time that we have worked with Northern Easter Camp. And oh, it was magnificent. When teaming up with creatives like these, we have always been able to create setups to a scale that isn’t often seen in our line of the industry.

After all, when you have four thousand youth and leaders in a single space, the setup has to be big.

AV Events staff with Registered Master Builders

We provided the lighting, screens, and broadcast for the main stadium, as well as the complete production gear for the outdoor marquee. The scale of such an endeavour had our crew working hard for the four days leading up to camp. With three enormous floor-to-ceiling LED screens, over 150 lighting fixtures, our new smoke cannons, an array of studio cameras scattered throughout the room, and a complete live stream of every session, it was certainly complex.

But the end product was a display of technological artistry.

Planning something of this scale takes time and logistics. We began working on these concepts months in advance, starting with the camp’s theme and budget, and then working backwards.

We designed the shape and look of the stage, leaning heavily on our lighting department for this one (given the camp’s theme of “let there be light”). One of the standout features of the camp was our new pixel tubes, used during a late-night session. Standing vertically, they were scattered throughout and surrounded the band for an intimate, emotive atmosphere. It’s just one of the benefits of wireless control.

Simple, yet so effective.

This isn’t the first stadium-sized event we have done. Nor will it be the last. AV Events may be a small crew, but that doesn’t mean we can’t do big things. Easter Camp allowed us to show that again, to prove that we are capable of much more than people give us credit for.

So if you are moving into events of this scale, we would love to be part of it, to help in any way we can.

Our New Smoke Cannons

Yes, you did hear us right. We now have smoke cannons! You might think they are over the top. After all, most people would have seen them used in a concert, at a rugby league game, or even maybe at a club. At face value, they don’t exactly seem to fit the corporate event space.

And in some cases, yes, that is true. They would be too much. But don’t rule them out entirely. Use them for those shows where more is needed. Because they bring an energy that can’t be underestimated.

So why not consider them for your next event?

Roadshows and Christmas

The middle of the year is fast approaching. And for us, that means roadshow season. AV Events will be embarking on several multi-week and multi-city tours throughout New Zealand.

Because this time of year gets busy for us, make sure to book well in advance, so that you don’t miss out on getting us for your event.

Speaking of which, this may feel like a strange question to hear, but are you thinking about Christmas yet?

We know it feels like it’s only just come and gone from last year. But the reality is, we are already starting to make plans for the end of the year. So, if you have not started, please do so. Get in touch with us, because we would love to be part of your end-of-year celebration.
