On the twenty first of July, at around 5 am, a man opened the door to his Queenstown motel. He made his way down the hill and proceeded to wait for his Uber, patiently enduring the brisk southern winter air.
It was, perhaps, a good thing it was so cold. It helped keep the exhaustion at bay, his eyes drooping from the early start.
In the Uber, he made his way to the airport, checked his bag in, went through security, ordered a coffee, sat down to read, and waited for his flight—his ears buzzing with the background chatter of his fellow passengers.
After multiple delays and several “I still haven’t boarded” text messages later, the plane took off. The warm sunrise glistening over the snow-capped Southern Alps. More reading. More chatter. A quick nap.
Landing in Auckland, he caught another Uber and headed straight to the Pullman hotel.
Together with the crew, he was there to set up HP’s 2024 “Innovate” event (with Type 40). The show’s hero: a twenty-seven metre wide, floor-to-ceiling LED screen with cutouts on the side. It was a true statement piece.
But, by the time he finally arrived at the hotel, most of the screen was already built. “Was I really that delayed?” he thought to himself.

As the tech in the story, I share this short anecdote for several reasons.
First, when I walked into the Princess Room at the Pullman, there was a sense of surrealism to the moment. Had I really just finished one event in Queenstown to then fly immediately to another in Auckland? How does one manage to squeeze in a large show in the middle of two simultaneous roadshows?
But upon reflection, it’s not entirely suprising.
One of AV Events’ core principles is our committment to our clients. Scott has instilled in the business a strong and dedicated work-ethic. Every client is to be treated with respect.
“Always give your best.”
“Work the problems that arise and pull your weight.”
These are the tenets that pull off high-end events. These are what enable us to cross the length of the country to work through back-to-back events.

Secondly, this job showed the brilliance of LED.
I’ve long noticed that people find large setups awe-inspiring. Whether it is from vaulted ceilings or panoramic experiences, there is something about grandeur that tugs on our hearts. This screen was a prime example.
But it wasn’t just the size of the screen that caught people’s attention. The sides fizzled off into pixelated sections, as if someone had cut out pieces of the screen.
When the delegates walked into Innovate, their reactions displayed these kinds of feelings. You could see their faces turn from shock, to awe, to curiosity, and to excitement. If HP and Type 40 wanted to make an impression, they certainly achieved that.
Design Your Unique Story

And that is what we do.
Part of our philosophy is that every event tells a story or has a purpose. Whatever that central narrative is, our role is to augment it with technology. We take all our expertise and funnel it into the event.
After all, we are here to serve you
I could be preaching to the choir here, but we want to see you have an incredible event. Let us help you, right from the beginning. Whatever your story is, we will work hard to see it come to life.
