On Entertaining Builders: The House of the Year 2023 Roadshow

AV Events with House of the Year Auckland 2023

Three weeks ago, our crew finished packing down the final show in a series of awards dinners touring the country. At 4:30 in the morning, amidst a torrent of rain and the snap of Auckland’s winter, the truck was finally closed. After starting setup in the venue twenty-three hours earlier, the crew was finally able to say goodbye to this marathon of an event.

The show was the Auckland, Northland, and Coromandel regional awards dinner for the 2023 Registered Master Builders House of the Year Competition. It was one of nine dinners that we had set up throughout the country over the previous five weeks—from Invercargill back up to Auckland.

Doing a roadshow like this is no small feat. It requires the coordination of numerous moving pieces and months of planning. Yet, year after year we have continued to pull it off.

How?

Essentially it boils down to three things: we conduct site visits to ensure that the venue has everything we need to make events of this scale possible; then, working in tandem with Master Builders, we adapt our base show design to fit each region’s unique flavour; and finally, we split into two teams—one crew for the North Island and one for the South, distributing our gear between the two.

Over the years we have continued to distil this system, designing a technical solution that allows us to adapt the gear we use to fit the requirements of each show along the tour.

Every year it is remarkable to see the contribution that Registered Master Builders are making to the New Zealand building sector. Helping them celebrate the indelible craftsmanship of their builders is a unique privilege that we cherish deeply.

But the House of the Year competition is only one of many road shows that we have done over the years. We have worked with internationally recognised corporations such as One NZ, Xero, and Samsung, pulling off some kick-ass events all around the country.

If you have a team that stretches between cities, don’t allow that distance to stop you from celebrating the incredible work that you do! Let AV Events do what we do best, bringing the party to you, no matter where in the country that may be.

Welcome!

Welcome to the AV Events newsletter! It’s been a while since we last released one and a lot has changed. The events and production industry itself has grown and developed, especially in the past four years. So, we want to bring you in, close. To pull the curtain back and let you see behind the scenes.

Every month we will bring you an update on what we see, what we have done, and what we think you should know about planning your events. In doing so, we hope to educate you, inspire you, and if you will let us, pull off an event with you.

So stick around, dream big, and let us help you make your vision come to life.
