The Case for LED Part One: Outdoor Events

LED Screens

You’ve probably seen them—at an awards dinner, a concert, a sports game, or even at the airport. They have become a staple in the world of video displays.

Once they were introduced, people began asking which was best for large video screens: LED or projectors? Whilst projector technology has certainly come a long way in recent years, there are still distinct advantages to LED that cannot be replicated.

Here in New Zealand, Daylight Savings is behind us. Meaning that you are probably well into planning those end-of-year Christmas functions and summer celebrations. But with longer days and warmer temperatures just around the corner, chances are you are looking to have these events outdoors.

Why do we bring this up?

Because traditional projector screens just won’t cut it for these types of events. You need an LED wall. There are two main reasons why.

First, they are bright enough to compensate for the large amount of sunlight that we experience during the day. Projector screens are best used indoors, often needing darkness to get a clear image. This is why cinemas are blacked out.

When they are used in the daylight, it’s like standing in the sun with an old smartphone. It doesn’t matter how much you turn the brightness up, there is too much glare on the screen to see anything.

LED doesn’t have that problem, as its non-reflective surface results in a glare-free viewing experience. They are also designed to be inherently brighter than projectors, meaning that you will still be able to see them clearly even in the noonday sun.

Secondly, the outdoor LED panel is weatherproof. Like most electronics, it’s obvious to say that projectors and water do not mix, whether from rain, snow, or mere condensation. Neither do the screens themselves.

Whilst you would hope that summer would come without any rain, that’s unfortunately not always the case. So for peace of mind (both yours and ours), our outdoor LED can sustain a fair bit of water thrown at it. For instance, when it was at the factory in China, it was washed with a hose.

True story.

Because of this, we always recommend to our clients that if they want to do an outdoor gig with visual elements (videos, images, graphics), then their best option is to go for an LED Screen. Regardless of the size of your event, we will have a screen setup that will fit just right.

Farewell, Joe!

Two weeks ago, we sadly said goodbye to our longstanding staff member, Joseph Martin. Joe was always quick to laugh and quick to a joke. But his work in audio was always done to the highest standard. You could truly sense his love and passion for it.

But Joe is moving onto great things, going to serve the community in more direct ways. And so, while we will miss him a lot, we are so proud of him for what he is doing!
