You know those moments in life when you see something truly awesome? I mean in the proper sense of the word—awe-inspiring. Those moments steal your attention and force you to admire its beauty. Its genius. Its grandeur.
This was one of these moments: the 2019 New Zealand International Business Awards.
This prestigious event annually celebrates the success of our country’s best international businesses, across all sectors and from all sizes. Working in tandem with Uno Loco, we set up a 26-metre wide, panoramic LED screen.
That’s 26 metres of curved LED.
Just stop and think about that for a moment.
It’s hard to convey just how big something like that was and the feeling it evoked.
But it demonstrated something that we have always known about LED: the rich opportunity it has for artistic expression. LED is not simply a display. It is a unique and powerful creative medium. Let us explain.

Two things should be considered when designing an LED setup: its shape and its visual content.
LED screens are modular. They are made from individual panels that connect. Each horizontal connection can be angled, resulting in curved or flat screens.
Now, you could use these to make a standard-size video screen. Admittedly, there will always be a place for these. But these connections also enable us to make a whole variety of unique shapes and designs.
Imagine pillars of LED scattered throughout the room. Or a four-sided clock tower which immediately becomes a virtual display board. Or even a digital wall of stained glass windows inside a cathedral.
Or you can go for a statement piece. The success of the NZIBA screen was due to (1) its curved design and (2) its sheer magnitude. There is a certain level of awe that is evoked in humans by seeing something so big move.

The second component that adds depth to your event is the visual content to go on the LED.
In recent years companies around the world have begun to realise the flexibility of LED for creating a variety of visual landscapes. For instance, Disney has created the “Volume”—a 270° room of LED that they used to create virtual sets and film shows like The Mandalorian.
Now, they have custom technology for that kind of rig that we do not. That naturally comes with being a multi-billion dollar corporation.
But what it does demonstrate is the particular way LED can be used. With striking content, you can turn any room, stage, or booth into anything you would like.
You could highlight the stunning array of houses constructed by those within your building agency. Or you could take your audience out into space, displaying astral graphics that promote your desire to connect the whole country through broadband. Or literally, anything else that your heart desired.

LED can be so much more than just a video screen. While standard sizes will always be the bread and butter of our setups, it is the creative, unusual designs that really make us excited.
So if you are thinking about how to make those end-of-year events—those celebrations, those wins—just that little bit better, choose LED. Choose to let your imagination lead you down trails never before explored. Let your creative vision be brought to life by our work with LED.

The End of Another Year
The end of the year is always one of the busiest seasons for us. It often involves working hard for weeks on end to help all our clients finish their year the right way.
So when it comes time for it, we like to enjoy a long stretch of rest over the new year period. To give you advanced warning, AV Events will officially be closing down on the 21st of December and reopening on the 15th of January. This is normal for us; it gives us the opportunity to recuperate after a big year.
But, that being said, we are still around. So if there is something you need help with over the new year period, get in touch with us and we can try and work something out.
